Gatorade Gets Medieval

Thanks to In the Medieval Middle, we find Kevin Garnett and his intrepid band (including Derek Jeter, Jimmie Johnson, Usain Bolt, Misty May-Treanor, Keri Walsh, and Alicia Sacramone -- with cameos from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Michael Jordan) traipsing across the Monty Python-esque landscape in their search for a new energy drink. Awesome.

PS -- Sorry for the short posts lately. More will be coming (hopefully) soon...

What's interesting to me about this ad isn't so much that they're using Arthuriana to sell Gatorade, but that Monty Python has become so mainstream that Gatorade can make a parody of a Python film featuring some of the biggest American sports stars, apparently with no concern that anyone involved will be perceived as nerdy.

Parody of parodies, all is parody....good point, Jeff!

I like it! Parodying a parody of a medieval work, translating the "hero" of yore to the hero of today, sports hero, but still....and its has good funny moments.

I was wondering only the other day whether we'd finally got to the point where Western Anglophone grows out of Monty Python, and I guess I now have my answer: a resounding "nuh-uh!" And I suppose I'm OK with that :-)

Greetings~

I have recently started a blog devoted to things medieval and, on occasion, I will be posing questions to others interested in the middle ages, the answers to be posted on my blog. I would be very interested in your answer to the following question:

What period or person from the middle ages most interests you and why?

Your answer can be as long or short as you wish and will be published in full on my blog. If you would like to participate, you may leave your response in the comments portion of my blog or email your response to kaya.alder at gmail.com. Please be sure to let me know how you wish your name to be shown in the post and any email address or website that you would like to have linked.

Thank you in advance,
Kaya
